Zhambyl region is located in the south of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It is adjacent to the Almaty, Turkestan, Karaganda regions, Talas and Chui regions of Kyrgyzstan. The region is named after the Kazakh and Soviet poet Zhambyl Zhabayuly. The territory of Zhambyl region extends from Betpakdala to Tien Shan, Shu and Karatau. The area of the territory is 144.2 thousand km2. The regional center, the largest city is Taraz. In total, there are 10 districts, 4 cities in the region, 379 villages in 153 townships and rural districts. Geographically, the territory of the region is mostly flat. The climate is very dry and continental.
